About Rowan Tree

I'm a Canadian chica, but have been living in England for the past five years, and married to a fine specimen of an Englishman for three. I love England, and I love where I live in semi-rural Cambridgeshire.

I create my collages mostly using public domain images. This is great because - well, they're free, for one, and because there's so much amazing stuff floating around out there just waiting to inspire someone to build on it and create something new. I love this "share and share alike" sprit on the internet, and I try to do my part by uploading as much as I can to online public domain resources.

My art is inspired by a lot of things...I like rich textures - anything worn, weathered, stained or aged is AWESOME by me - and images from folklore, myths and fairy tales, as well as the imagery of the English landscape.

And the name? I dunno, really. I picked it on impulse one day, trying to think of a name that would work to represent both my graphic design and fine art work. I had a rowan tree in my garden when I was a young kid in British Columbia (except we called it a 'mountain ash', of course), and these days one of the things I like most about visiting my father-in-law in Wales is seeing all the rowan trees growing wild on the hillsides. The colour of their berries deepens as autumn draws on. In folklore, the rowan tree is supposed to protect against bad spells and spirits...and hey, you can't be too careful these days!
